In general, appointments may be fixed in advance over telephone, by correspondence (email / fax / letter), or in person. Appointments are issued by reception desk staff only and may be fixed up to a maximum of two months in advance. In exceptional cases and for medical / surgical emergencies, 'spot' appointments are given subject to availability. Some information about the nature of eye problem is desirable. Depending on the nature of eye disorder, appointments are fixed with suitable specialist ophthalmologists. The eye centre is closed on Sundays and selected national holidays.

The time scheduled for appointment is the time for reporting at the reception. Patients are requested to bring their medical file with them. Patients coming for the first time are required to fill in an information sheet. A detailed medical record with a specific number and a computerized database are maintained for every patient for future reference. Patients previously seen at Sunetra are requested to bring their reference numbers, previous prescriptions and test reports. They are also requested to notify changes in their addresses and / or telephone numbers, if any. Out-station patients should notify their local contact addresses / telephone numbers at every visit.

Eye check up at Sunetra involves comprehensive examination of parts of the eye irrespective of the nature of the problem. It includes history taking, vision checking, refraction if indicated, slit-lamp biomicroscopy, and measurement of intraocular pressure by applanation tonometry and retina examination by indirect opthalmoscopy. The complete eye examination may take upto 1 -2 hours. Although patients are examined in serial order, priority is given to acute emergencies. Excepting for small children and for physically handicapped, only one attendant is allowed to accompany a patient within the centres premises.
